Developmental regression in autism spectrum disorder

10

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects communication, behavior, and social interaction in involved people. One of the symptoms of ASD is developmental regression, which is defined as a loss of previously acquired skills or abilities. This can be seen in language, social skills, motor skills, problem-solving abilities, self-care skills, and other areas of development It can also include changes in behavior and interests.

Developmental regression may happen around the age of 20 months.

It can be very difficult for families to cope with as it takes away the progress that has been made by their child. The cause of this regression is unknown but It is important to understand what causes this regression and how it can be managed in order to provide the best possible care for those affected by ASD.
